Our vision is to provide a network of therapists throughout Norfolk providing massage, reflexology and other beneficial therapies to unpaid carers free of charge.
We are seeking funding to pay participating therapists for their time ensuring that TherapyAid continues as a high quality sustainable service.
A Brief Overview
The Jackie Hamilton School of Therapies is an accredited school that has been successfully training adults in massage, reflexology, sports massage therapy, aromatherapy and anatomy and physiology since 2005.
The TherapyAid Committee was formalised in April 2019 by Jackie and a number of her tutors and graduates who are now seeking charitable status with the support and advice of Community Action Norfolk.
Why Unpaid/Informal Carers?
Our experience as professional therapists has given us an insight into the tremendous job that unpaid and informal carers do.
They save the NHS approximately £130 billion a year and Norfolk services £1.6 billion a year, and they do so without thought to their own well-being and mental and emotional health. Often their only complaints are a few aches and pains, but we know from experience that it goes much deeper than that.
Giving unpaid carers some dedicated time to de-stress and rebalance means that they will be in a better position to care for their loved ones, and are more likely to stay in better health themselves.
About the Therapists
The Jackie Hamilton School of Therapies has a huge network of quality graduates trained to national standards as well as connections to many other quality therapists throughout Norfolk.
This means that all participating therapists will; be checked for Level 3 (or equivalent) qualifications on the National Occupational Standards, belong to a recognised national association, hold current insurance, a first aid certificate and a valid DBS certificate.
Sir Norman Lamb : one minute video from our recent mini Integrated Health conference, when he said:
The service you can provide through TherapyAid for unpaid carers will make such a difference for people living in our county .
I’ve got enormous admiration for people who give of themselves totally, , unsung heroes – who don’t shout about what they do but just get on with caring for their loved one. Often in quite difficult and trying circumstances.
What you can offer I think can be life changing, can in a way make life really worth living for people, so I strongly endorse what you are trying to do through this charity
How will it work?
The service from TherapyAid will be available to any unpaid carer supporting a Norfolk resident who is affected by a disability or long term health condition. Carers will be entitled to receive up to four treatments free of charge from participating therapists.
They may be referred to TherapyAid by the care groups we are in contact with such as Carers Matter, Norfolk Family Carers, AgeUK, as well as care agencies and GPs. They may also self-refer.
Having a network of participating therapists through the county will give the carer the option of being treated at home or in a nearby clinic making
How will it be measured?
To measure the impact of its service TherapyAid will use the Measure Yourself Concerns and Well-Being (MYCaW) tool. MYCAW is a validated and recognised tool which measures whether a service has been effective by using a simple point scale before and after treatment to create meaningful qualitative data.
